"Drag racing has given so much to me and through this wonderful charity, which they graciously named after me, we will now be able to give something back to some children in the wonderful communities that have backed our sport for so many years," Muldowney said. "We all have a special place in our hearts for children so we thought it would be great if we could help out some of the little ones through Shirley's Kids."
Recipients may be facing large medical bills or need a piece of equipment to make their lives easier. They may be battling disease or struggling to escape a bad situation in their lives. The commonality will be an association with drag racing.
"If Shirley's Kids can lend a helping hand and change a life for the better, than we've done something worthwhile," Muldowney said. "I know from my many years in this sport that our racers and fans are the most gracious and giving people you'll ever find and I know in my heart everyone will support what we're doing and be proud of the difference we can all make together."
Shirley's Kids is funded by numerous corporations and individuals and contributions from racers and fans. All proceeds from the donations will go to the recipients. Shirley's Kids is a 501(c)(3) open-book charity.
Shirley's Kids is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity created to help children in need. Because our namesake, four-time world champion Shirley Muldowney, has lived her life in drag racing, our organization first seeks out deserving children within the drag racing community. Recipients may be struggling with medical issues or financial hardships brought on by a personal or family tragedy. Because of corporate support, we proudly declare that 100 percent of all proceeds raised go directly to the designated children.

A living legend in the sport of professional drag racing, Shirley Muldowney spent five decades breaking barriers for female competitors in motorsports. Her dedication and grit, combined with her winning philosophy, helped her face and overcome many obstacles during a time when many of her male counterparts were unsympathetic to a woman invading a "man's world." Four world championships and countless wins later, Muldowney's greatness has been cemented in place and her peers respectfully call her the "first lady of drag racing."

Still brimming with confidence at age 75, Muldowney has turned her intense focus to helping others
and with the creation of Shirley's Kids, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity, she is dedicating herself full-time to lending a hand to children in need in the markets where drag racing has become a part of the community. In 2016, Muldowney will select deserving recipients in more than a dozen cities along the drag racing trail to help in their special time of need.
